Medical College loses approval for 50 MBBS Seats over Non-cooperation with NMC Assessment team

Mumbai: In a setback to Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences under the Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth (a deemed university) in Karad, the National Medical Commission (NMC) recently disapproved 50 medical seats in the institute, which were added last year.

According to the NMC Portal, the college lost the approval from the Apex medical commission because of non-cooperation with the assessment team of the Commission.

Until the year 2021, the college offered 200 MBBS seats for admission of medical aspirants. Last year, NMC permitted the college for Renewal of 200-250 seats for the academic year 2022-2023. However, in respect of this academic year, NMC mentioned in the portal, "Disapproved the proposal of renewal for the Academic Year 2023 - 2024 due to non - cooperation with the assessment team."

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the 200 seats are shown available in respect of the college for the counselling round in the seat matrix released this weekend for deemed universities. Meanwhile, an official from the college claimed that the surprise visit by the assessment team of NMC was conducted at a local public holiday.

The official told the daily, “Since the office was shut, we requested the team to visit on a working day. The team gave a negative comment and the approval to the additional 50 seats given last year was stayed. But we have made an appeal for a fresh inspection, and they have agreed. We are waiting for the NMC team to visit the college again."

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is commencing the choice-filling process for the counselling round for deemed universities from Saturday.

TOI adds that Karad deemed university will only have 200 seats for the aspirants in the first round. However, according to college officials, if the Commission grants approval for the concerned 50 seats after re-inspection, those will also be added in the subsequent rounds. Although the choice filling process for MCC for admissions to deemed universities was supposed to commence on Friday, it got delayed by a day.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that last year a sudden tragedy had called on a Dhule-based Private medical college as NMC had put it on no-admission list after the apex medical regulator was not impressed by a surprise visit at the medical college.

Apart from cancelling the recognition for the 50 new MBBS seats at Annasaheb Chudaman Patil Memorial Medical College, NMC at that time had also cancelled the institute's permission for 100 existing MBBS seats.
