NMC issues LoP for 175 additional MBBS seats in Andhra
Andhra Pradesh: In good news for students aspiring to pursue medical studies in Andhra Pradesh, the state has recently secured a total of 175 additional MBBS seats across two government medical colleges for the 2026-27 academic year.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) issued official 'Letters of Permission' (LoP) to the 2 medical colleges in the state recently.
As per the LoP, initial approval has been granted for a total of 100 seats at the newly established Government Medical College in Piduguralla, alongside approval for an expansion of 75 additional seats at the Government Siddhartha Medical College in Vijayawada.
Earlier to this, the NMC had approved an increase of 75 seats at the Government Medical College in Kadapa and 25 seats at the ACSR Government Medical College in Nellore.
On this, the Association President P. Arun Chaudhary, Working President D. Tarkesh, and Secretary K. Ranga Rao stated that the administration's proactive efforts to secure 275 additional government seats by leveraging the NMC's relaxed guidelines would prove highly beneficial for approximately 30,000 families across the state.
According to a TNIE media report, the government increased the number of seats in stages: 150 seats were added in 2024–25, followed by a modest increase of 30 seats in 2025–26, and a substantial increase of 275 seats in the current 2026–27 cycle.
On the other hand, a total of 550 seats have recently been added across several prominent private sector institutions. For the 2024–25 academic session, 50 seats were added at KIMS Amalapuram, 100 at VIMS Kurnool, and 100 at NRI Visakhapatnam, while Nimra Vijayawada saw an expansion of 50 seats.
This trend continued into the 2025–26 academic year, with SRMC Nandyal adding 100 seats, while the newly opened Anna Gauri Medical College in Puttur formally commenced operations with an initial intake of 100 seats.
