NMC nod to 150 MBBS seats at Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences
CIMS gets NMC Approval for new session
Bilaspur: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Chhattisgarh, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted its approval for 150 MBBS seats at Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS).
NMC, the Apex Medical Education Regulatory Body in India, has issued a letter to CIMS in this regard and informed about it, Dainik Bhaskar has reported.
The Commission inspected the medical college back in June before granting its approval. During the inspection, the Commission took note of the infrastructure at the medical college, including an OPD of an average of 2000 patients daily, 85% admission, number of operations, availability of many departments, testing laboratories, hostel facility, library, and educational quality.

As per the latest media report by Dainik Bhaskar, NMC has allowed the new session at the medical college only after ensuring that it fulfills the standards of the commission.
Currently, there are 150 MBBS and 68 postgraduate (MD/MS) seats operative at CIMS. Now, with the NMC approval, the admission process for the new session will start soon. The management of the medical college has completed the preparations for counselling for admission.
However, while inspecting the medical college back in June, the officers and members of the NMC team had expressed concern about the shortage of faculty and resident doctors. However, the management had assured the Commission that the shortage of faculty would be met.
To ensure that there is an adequate number of faculty available at the medical college, along with regular appointments by the State government, the process for appointments on a contractual basis by the college management is also underway. However, the deficiency has not been removed till now.
Confirming that NMC has allowed CIMS to admit 150 seats in the MBBS course for the academic session 2025-2026, Dean Dr. Ramanesh Murthy has assured that even though the number of faculty and resident doctors is less, this shortage will be overcome soon.
