NMC seeks report from MGM medical college Jamshedpur after MBBS student alleges ragging by seniors

Ragging Complaint
Jamshedpur: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has sought a detailed report from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) after a first-year MBBS student filed an online ragging complaint with the regulator, accusing senior students of mental harassment and interference in hostel room allotment.
The student, in his complaint, alleged that the seniors mentally tortured him and pressured him to stay in a room chosen by them instead of the room officially allotted by the college administration.
Taking note of the allegations, the NMC directed the college administration to submit a comprehensive report mentioning the exact allegations and the corrective steps taken in the matter.

Following the direction, the college’s Anti-Ragging Committee (ARC) has started a formal inquiry into the issue. As part of the investigation, the committee on Saturday questioned several senior students and collected evidence.
College officials said the probe is being conducted with sensitivity and fairness to ensure justice.
Commenting on the matter, MGMMCH principal Dr Sanjay Kumar told TOI, "SDO of Dhalbhum has directed the DSP (Patamda range) to investigate the matter extensively and report it soon. The ARC is also looking into the issue. We need to wait till the probe is over to conclude anything."
As per the Avenue Mail media report, Jamshedpur Sub-Divisional Officer Arnav Mishra and Patamda DSP Dayanand Kumar visited the MGM Medical College campus and hostel facilities earlier this week. The officials conducted inspections and reviewed CCTV footage as part of the verification proces.
In 2022, Medical Dialogues had reported that eleven MBBS students of the Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Indore were suspended for a period of three months for allegedly ragging their juniors and they were barred from staying in the college's hostel during the suspension period.
