No Appointments for Professor Emeritus in Medical Colleges yet Despite MP DME Order
Bhopal: Despite the earlier order issued by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) directing the government medical colleges in the State to appoint retired professors by bestowing them with the title of Professor Emeritus, no appointment has been made in this regard in the medical colleges across Madhya Pradesh.
Earlier, the State DME had issued an order directing the Deans of the government medical colleges and dental institutes to designate all the re-employed faculties as Professor Emeritus. After that, the DME did not follow up on the matter. However, the DME Director has opined that it is open to interested persons to apply for the post to DME. He further said that no one seemed to be interested in joining the post.
Meanwhile, the senior doctors and retired professors of the medical colleges have stated that the government should appoint retired professors as it is beneficial for the students and no salary is paid to them.
Doctors pointed out that the experience of these retired faculties should be used for the students pursuing their education in medical colleges. As per the latest media report by Free Press Journal, the Professor Emeritus/emerita title is bestowed upon the returned academicians to recognise their work and distinguished service.
Commenting on the matter, Dr TN Dubey, neurologist and vice-chancellor of Madhya Pradesh Ayurvigyan Vishwavidyalaya (Medical Science University), Jabalpur told FPJ, "DME had issued order to designate all re-employed faculty as Professor Emeritus but no follow-up has been made by DME and concerning medical colleges in this matter."
"No appointment has been made as Professor Emeritus in government medical colleges. If anyone is interested, he/she may apply to DME. No one appears interested in becoming Professor Emeritus," said Dr. AK Shrivastava, the Director of DME.
