No MBBS student at Delhi's Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences, RML received scholarship, reveals RTI

New Delhi: None of the MBBS students from the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 batches received any benefits under the scholarship scheme launched by Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr RML Hospital, revealed the information obtained via an RTI application.
Filing the RTI, Dr. Aman Kaushik, sought the details on how many students from the 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 batches received financial need-based scholarships and how many students from the 2021, 2022, and 2023 batches received academic performance-based scholarships as of 27.09.2025.
In response to the application, the authorities at the institute replied on October 23, saying, "No MBBS student has been disbursed any scholarship of this institute so far."
Commenting on the matter, Dr. Kaushik told Medical Dialogues, "This scheme of scholarship is really good, but it's really unfortunate that the central govt medical institute failed to issue a scholarship to the students even after the passage of a lot of time. I request RML administration to expedite the process and ensure the timely distribution of scholarships to the students."
RML administration introduced the scholarship scheme in January this year. The scheme has two categories- financial need-based scholarship and performance-based scholarship.
Under the financial need-based scholarship, two students can get scholarship awards per batch annual of Rs 36,000 each, which will be paid at Rs 3,000 per month. Furthermore, the academic and hostel fees paid by such students are also to be reimbursed, provided the person is not receiving tuition reimbursement benefits from any other organisation.
On the other hand, two similar awards per batch are granted annually under the academic performance-based scholarship. In this case also, the students also get the same reimbursement benefits.
As per the latest media report by the Times of India, none of the students have yet received the scholarship benefits, even though several applications were submitted for the same. Students informed the Daily that at least 14 applications have been submitted. The students from the 2023 and 2024 batches submitted their applications by January 28, while the 2021 and 2022 batches applied by May 7. The students claimed that even though the process was supposed to take a few weeks, there has been no update even after months.
Meanwhile, an official from RML administration informed that the financial implications were involved and the discussions with the Union Health Ministry were underway.
