Proposal to add 247 PG seats in Telangana Govt medical colleges sent to NMC
Hyderabad: The Ministry of Health has planned to add 247 additional PG seats in government medical colleges across Telangana during the academic year 2022-23. The proposal for the same was sent by the Health Director to the National Medical Commission (NMC).
As per the officials of the Health Department, the National Medical Commission is likely to grant its approval soon.
The details of the new seats that would be added include maximum number of 80 seats in Siddipet medical college followed by Osmania Medical College with 32 seats. Suryapet Medical College would get 25 seats while Nalgonda Medical College with 30 and 16 seats for Nizamabad Medical College. Mahabubnagar Medical College and Kakatiya Medical College would get 10 PG seats each. Further, Adilabad AIIMS Medical College and Gandhi Medical College would add 22 seats each.
Presently, there are 967 PG seats in government medical colleges in Telangana.
As per the Director of Medical Education, Dr Ramesh Reddy, "During the past 8 years, 430 PG seats were increased. The State Government is giving top priority to the development of infrastructure in government hospitals due to which there are no hurdles in the increase of PG seats in medical colleges."
The state is planning to set up a Medical College in each district to increase the MBBS seats to 5240, PG seats to 2500 Super Speciality seats to 1000, reports The Siasat Daily.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that with eight more Government medical college coming up in the State, the total number of Government medical seats in Telangana is going up to 5,240 after establishing a medical college in every district.

Reddy told The Siasat Daily that PG seats in ratio to MBBS have not increased in any state and this is only possible in the state of Telangana. The reason for this is that since the formation of separate Telangana promotions were given continuously in the medical education department which led to the increase in the number of professors and associate professors which paved the way for the increase in PG seats.
