Ragging at Ratlam's Medical College: 2 MBBS students suspended for cutting junior's hair, demanding alcohol

Bhopal: A shocking case of ragging has come to light at Dr. Laxminarayan Pandey Medical College in Ratlam, where two second-year medical students from the 2023 batch, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, reportedly threatened a junior, cut his hair, and ordered another first-year student to bring them alcohol in their hostel room.
After being found guilty, the college's anti-ragging committee suspended the seniors and barred them from academic activities. One student has been suspended for a year from all academic engagements and university exams and is prohibited from entering the college campus and hostel during this period. The other has been suspended for six months and is also barred from attending classes or appearing in exams during that time.

According to media reports, the two accused entered the first-year hostel on Wednesday night and went to a junior student’s room while intoxicated. They consumed alcohol there, abused and threatened the juniors, and used a trimmer to cut the junior's hair. They also ordered another junior to bring them more alcohol.
The incident escalated when other hostel residents learned about the ragging and protested against it. In response, the accused seniors allegedly began shouting and creating a commotion. The first-year students then threatened to inform the Dean and Warden, prompting the seniors to flee the scene by jumping over the back wall of the hostel, leaving their motorcycles behind.
Upon receiving the information, Dean Dr. Anita Mootha, hostel warden Dr. Devendra Chauhan, and other staff members immediately reached the hostel. They questioned the students, seized the motorcycles belonging to the accused, and handed them over to the police.
Following this, the first-year victims lodged a formal complaint against the two seniors. Acting on the complaint, the college's anti-ragging committee launched an investigation and found the seniors guilty of ragging.
Sub-Inspector Dhyan Singh Solanki of the Industrial Police Station told Bhaskar, "Police reached the spot at night. The Anti-Ragging Committee has not submitted any written complaint to the police station. Legal action will be taken upon receiving the complaint."
Dean Dr. Anita told TOI, "We had informed the police but will not be filing a formal FIR at this point. The parents of the accused will be summoned to the college and required to sign an undertaking. A separate meeting will be held with all wardens to ensure such incidents do not happen in the future."
