Rs 15 Hostel fees, 24x7 Electricity for Rs 4 per month: AIIMS Deoghar MBBS student's Room Tour Video Goes Viral
Deoghar: A recent video showing the facilities available in the hostel room at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Deoghar campus has gone viral on social media.
Sharing the video, a student from the institute said he has to pay only Rs 15 as hostel charges and Rs 4 as electricity charges for a single occupancy room having 24x7 electricity.
In the video titled 'Room tour of AIIMS', a student was seen explaining the facilities and amenities offered to hostellers at the institute. The video starts outside AIIMS Deoghar, where the student mentions that it costs only Rs 5586 to pursue an MBBS course at AIIMS.
Thereafter, he refers to a big hostel building and mentions that he is the sole occupant of a furnished room and it costs him only Rs 15 per month.
The room has a large single bed (3 ft x 7 ft), a study table with a small drawer, a comfortable revolving chair, and a cupboard having four shelves and two drawers. He also mentioned that the room has 24x7 electricity and charges are only Rs 4 per month. After this, the video shows that the room also has a balcony with a beautiful view of the sunrise.
In another video, an AIIMS student was seen showing off his comfortable hostel life at AIIMS, a student warns others in a satirical manner warning others against joining the students, referring to the availability of various facilities for the students.
"Don't make the mistake of pursuing MBBS from AIIMS. Soon after getting selected to AIIMS, many people will bother you by calling to congratulate you, and that too is for a life on which the Government spends Rs 1.7 crore," the student said.
"After coming to AIIMS, there are arrangements at place to live comfortably, to drink cold water, to watch television, to enjoy. Who wants to live such a life, that too in the AC. At AIIMS, you can pursue research from the 1st year itself. Why would anyone want to see their name on newspaper?" he added.
Then the video shows a very comfortable hostel room and the student in the video says that rooms like that costs only Rs 15 per month and there are also free wifi. "Anyone would get tired after watching Netflix everyday, right? And every few months, big events like fests and functions are held at AIIMS. Who would want to live such a life and pursue MBBS from AIIMS?" said the student.
Reacting to these videos, several of the netizens shared their astonishment over the meagre amount of charges for MBBS students at AIIMS. One of the X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, "The cost of producing an MBBS doctor at AIIMS includes expenses for: Land, Equipment, Utilities, and Teaching staff."
"and the fees is not even 1 lakh, govt is the worst business person. this is where your tax money is wasted," wrote another user.
Pointing out that several of these AIIMS graduates move abroad later, one X user wrote, "And then they move to the US Indian spends money to train Americas best minds Badhiya scam bana rakha hai Americans nein."
"Not just aiims govt spends 35 lakh/year on every medical student be it govt or private medical college. That's why when they run away abroad it's waste of taxpayers money," wrote another user.
However, one of the users pointed out that it required hard work by students to get admitted to AIIMS and wrote, "This is super initiative of higher education in premier institutions.. To get all these services almost free, u have to prepare well & qualify competitive examinations (here NEET) with top ranks.. This is the eligibility to reach the scenario like this to get benefits."
"Brother the ones who get selected in AIIMS are like the top minds with dedication in the Medical stream in India. Such investments are worth it considering most of the AIIMS doctors continue to work in India," wrote another.
