Soon: New DNB, FNB Courses, and Depts to Come Up at Lady Hardinge Medical College
New Delhi: Bringing good news to the postgraduate medical aspirants, new DNB and FNB courses are going to commence at Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC).
Confirming this, the Director of the institute Subhas Giri informed that the institute aims to start DNB course in Emergency Medicine and FNB course in Reproductive and Foetal Medicine.
Further, plans for setting up several super-speciality departments including Endocrinology, Cardiology, Nephrology etc are also under process, he mentioned.
Apart from this, modern facilities such as stem cell therapy, radio-oncology services, new departments are also going to come up at the institute to meet the evolving healthcare requirements.
Established in 1916, Lady Hardinge Medical College is a Central Government institute. It has an intake capacity for around 240 MBBS and 160 Postgraduate medical seats.

Sharing the future plan of action for the institute, Director Giri told Education Times, "There are plans for construction of an 800-bedded hospital, MCH block, and super-speciality departments like Endocrinology, Cardiology, Nephrology and more at a cost of total Rs 78 crore."
"The institute aims to start new courses including DNB in Emergency Medicine and FNB in Reproductive and Foetal Medicine and establish modern facilities, such as a stem cell therapy centre and radio-oncology services, to meet evolving healthcare needs. The new courses will begin from the 2024-25 session starting May-June. Expanding residential hostels is also our priority," he added.
Back in 2023, the institute witnessed advancements such as inclusion of a new IPD block with increased bed capacity in the key departments. Apart from this, a new central lab has been set up, offering 24x7 radiology services.
Meanwhile, the 107th Annual Day and Convocation Ceremony of the medical college was held in New Delhi on Monday. Altogether 580 MBBS female students were awarded degrees at the event and 68 meritorious girl students were given gold medals.
President Droupadi Murmu was the chief guest at the event and she emphasised India's critical need for more medical professionals for the betterment of doctor-to-population ratio beyond the recommendations made by the World Health Organization (WHO).
She also encouraged the medical graduates to explore the emerging fields in the medical sector including robotics, genomics, organ transplantation, and advanced cancer treatment approaches.
The President further highlighted the importance of upholding ethical values and integrating a "one health" approach to healthcare.
MoS Health, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar also attended the ceremony. She said, "Our focus is on this and we are continuously working on it. Health services are being provided to every village. The number of doctors has been increased, and the number of medical colleges has increased from 387 in the last 10 years to 700 today."
