Tomo Riba Institute of health and medical sciences gets NMC nod for 24 MD, MS seats in 11 specialities

Arunachal Pradesh: In a major boost for medical education in the state, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently approved the commencement of 11 MD/MS courses by the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS).
This college was established by upgrading the existing General Hospital. TRIHMS is Arunachal Pradesh's first medical college, established in 2017, with a 300-bed hospital. Its academic session began on August 1, 2018, with 50 students, under the directorship of Dr. Moji Jini.
According to a copy of the NMC letter by the Functional Director and Dean Prof. (Dr.) Naba Kumar Bezborua, a total of 24 seats have been approved in 11 MD/MS courses as follows:
MD (General Medicine) – 2;
MD (Pediatrics) – 2;
MS (General Surgery) – 3;
MD/MS (Anatomy) – 2;
MD (Anesthesiology) – 2;
MD (Microbiology) – 2;
MD (Physiology) – 2;
MD (Community Medicine) – 2;
MD (Radio Diagnosis) – 3;
MS (Obstetrics and Gynecology) – 2;
and MD (Pharmacology) – 2.
According to an ArunachalObserver media news report, New Delhi-based National Medical Commission (NMC, coordination division) of GoI, vide its letter No. CDN-16/2/2025-CDN-NMC-30.12.25, signed by secretary-approved committee convenor Dr Raghav Langer, has approved introduction of 11 MD/MS courses by TRINMS on 26.11.25.
In 2020, TRIHMS launched three-year Diplomate of National Board (DNB) postgraduate courses in specialties such as Anesthesiology, Radiology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pediatrics, accredited by NBEMS, to provide advanced medical training and meet the demand for specialists in Arunachal Pradesh.
These DNB programs were a major step for TRIHMS, providing experienced doctors with the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies and improving specialist care in the region, making it a historic achievement for medical education in the state.
On this, Prof Bezbaruah said “I personally pursued for allotment of these seats in New Delhi, but the numbers would increase from next year. Moreover, we would try for seats in other nine departments of total 20 full-fledged departments next year”. Moreover, the intake capacity rose to 100 from 50 in 2024-2025 academic session.
