KNRUHS directs medical colleges to collect 4.5-year MBBS fees in 5 equal instalments
Warangal: In a clarification on medical college fee structures, Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) has directed all affiliated medical colleges to revise the manner in which MBBS tuition fees are collected from students.
According to the latest instructions, the total course fee for the 4.5 year MBBS program should be calculated based on the approved annual fee and then divided into five equal instalments.
The university has made it clear that colleges must strictly follow this rule and also display the fee details on their notice boards so that students are fully aware of the payment structure. KNRUHS has warned that any deviation from these guidelines will not be taken lightly, and strict action may be taken against institutions that fail to comply.
According to an official communication issued by the university, the annual tuition fee specified in the Government Order (G.O.) must be multiplied by 4.5 years, reflecting the total course duration. The university has further instructed that this consolidated fee should be collected in five equal instalments, rather than as separate yearly payments.
The directive comes as a continuation of earlier references cited in the office letter dated April 15, 2026. KNRUHS emphasized strict compliance, warning that any deviation from these instructions will be viewed seriously and could invite regulatory action against the concerned institution as per existing rules.
Medical Dialogues had reported that the NMC issued a public notice on April 7, 2026, directing all medical colleges to charge fees only for the prescribed academic duration of four and a half years, after noting that certain medical colleges under its purview are charging fees for the entire duration of five years or five and a half years from the MBBS students.
Drawing the attention of the medical colleges, institutions and universities to Section 10 and Section 24 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 and the Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) Guidelines, 2024 framed under the Graduate Medical Education Regulations (GMER), the Commission stated that these provisions clearly state that the duration of the MBBS course comprises 4½ years (54 months) of academic study, followed by one (01) year of compulsory rotating internship (CRMI).
The Commission stated that any instance of non-compliance with the directive will be viewed seriously, and appropriate action will be taken as per existing statutory and regulatory provisions.
