NEET PG Cutoff Criteria: Health Ministry forwards matter to NBE

Forwarding a copy of the letter submitted by the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), who had raised the issue and had demanded to decrease the qualifying criteria in the counselling to fill up the maximum number of seats, the Union Health Ministry has written to NBE on 15.02.2022.

"I am directed to forward here with a copy of letter dated 25.01.2022 received from Dr Rohan Krishnan, President, FAIMA Doctors Association on the above mentioned subject for appropriate action under intimation to petitioner and this Ministry," mentioned the Health Ministry's letter.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that pointing towards the wastage of seats every year, the doctors under the umbrella of FAIMA doctors association had approached the Union Health Ministry and had requested the authorities to revise the cut-off criteria for NEET PG 2021 counselling.

Referring to the fact that every year, a large number of seats including clinical, paraclinical as well as non-clinical remain vacant because enough candidates above the cut-off do not opt for them, FAIMA had mentioned that in the state of medical emergency that India is dealing with, the country cannot afford any vacancies in this field.

"We request you to kindly revise the qualifying score in mopup adequately so that all seats including basic subjects are filled in States as well AIQ counselling," the letter had mentioned.

The Union Health Ministry has now responded to the representation as it has forwarded the matter to the Executive Director of the National Board of Examinations (NBE).

Speaking about the issue, Dr Rohan Krishnan, the President of FAIMA told Medical Dialogues, "After we submitted our representation before the Health Ministry, it had pointed out that the final authority in this matter was NBE and NMC. Back then, the Health Ministry officials had expressed that they were also in favour of decreasing the cut-off in the NEET PG counselling. In fact, it was the concern of the Health Minister as well that the non-clinical subjects in the first and second year get filled and for that he had also opined that the cut-off criteria should be done away with."

"The mop-up counselling is set to start from March 2 and we are hopeful that before the commencement of the mop-up counselling, the cut-off criteria will get revised, and maximum relaxation will be given so that maximum number of seats get filled" he added.
