NIRF Ranking 2023: AIIMS remains Top Medical College in India, Check out complete list here
New Delhi: The ranking of top medical colleges across the country, based on the government's National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF), has been released today by Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, the Minister of State for Education and External Affairs.
According to the NIRF rankings 2023, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi remains the top medical college in the country with a whopping score of 94.32; AIIMS was adjudged as the number 1 institute last year as well with a score of 91.6.
The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh (PGIMER) bagged the second position with an 81.10 score and Christian Medical College (CMC Vellore) got the third rank with 75.29.
As per NIRF 2022 list last year, the PGIMER had got 79 and CMC Vellore 72.84. All the top 3 institutes have increased their score by around 3 points this year.
Similar to last year, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bangalore (NIMHANS) has bagged the 4th position with a 72.46 score by the ministry.
Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) which got Rank 6 last year has jumped a level up and secured its position in the top 5 medical colleges scoring 72.10 this year.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham improved greatly this year, bagging the 6th position with a 70.84 score compared to Rank 8 in 2022.
Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences remains in 7th position this year as well with a score of 69.92 compared to last year’s 67.18.
There has been a downfall in the ranking of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The university ranked in 5th position in 2022 with a score of 68.12 but in 2023, the BHU has ranked in 8th position with a score of 68.75.
Kasturba Medical College, Manipal is another top medical institution seeing growth compared to last year’s score of 63.89. With a 66.19 score, Kasturba Medical College has got the 9th rank in NIRF 2023.
The top 10 list ends with Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) with a score of 65.24. SCTIMST has also seen a dip in its ranking this year as in 2022, it ranked 9th.
The NIRF is the annual Indian ranking that rates various institutes based on the parameters set by the organization including the best colleges in the fields of engineering, medical, and MBA, including the top universities. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations and broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by the Ministry of Education, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover "Teaching, Learning and Resources," "Research and Professional Practices," "Graduation Outcomes," "Outreach and Inclusivity," and "Perception".
