NMC adds 11 non teaching hospitals for FMG internships in Delhi, extends approval til May 2028

FMG Internship
New Delhi: The Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the National Medical Commission has approved the inclusion of eleven non-teaching hospitals in Delhi for conducting the mandatory Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) for the Foreign Medical Graduates (FMG).
In addition to the already existing nine (9) non-teaching hospitals, these 11 new hospitals have received the Apex Medical Commission's permission to conduct FMG Internship for a period up to May 2028.
The list of 11 non-teaching hospitals includes the following:
(1) Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, Shastri Park,
(2) Acharya Shree Bhikshu Government Hospital, Moti Nagar,
(3) Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, Jahangirpuri,
(4) Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, Pitampura,
(5) Dr. Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan, Karkardooma,
(6) Guru Gobind Singh Government Hospital, Raghubir Nagar,
(7) Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, Ashok Vihar,
(8) Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Khichripur,
(9) Aruna Asaf Ali Government Hospital, Rajpur Road,
(10) Ambedkar Nagar Hospital, Dakshinpuri,
(11) Indira Gandhi Hospital, Sector 9, Dwarka.
NMC granted its nod after considering a proposal submitted in this regard by the Delhi Medical Council (DMC), while highlighting the disparity between the actual number of internship seats approved by NMC and those allotted by medical council in teaching and non-teaching hospitals.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that back in May 2026, granting major relief to thousands of Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) across the country, the National Medical Commission (NMC) had extended the tenure for Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) for the graduates in recognised non-teaching hospitals till May 2028.
The issue gained attention after FMGs raised concerns that discontinuation of the permission could lead to delays in CRMI completion and uncertainty in the future of the graduates.

In Delhi, the Commission had granted permission for the extension of tenure for conducting FMG internship across nine non-teaching hospitals. Following this, DMC wrote to the NMC Secretary, highlighted the disparity between the seats approved and those currently allotted, and urged the Apex Medical Commission to ensure optimal utilization of approved internship seats.
Referring to the DMC's letter, NMC UGMEB, in its recent communication dated 15.07.2026, addressed to the Registrar of DMC, mentioned, "This is in continuation of the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) letter of even number dated 25.05.2026, which granted permission for the extension of tenure for conducting CRMI slots for FMGs across nine (9) non-teaching hospitals. Subsequently, the Delhi Medical Council (DMC), vide communication No. DMC/Gen/F.2/2/2026/340154 dated 12.06.2026 addressed to the Secretary, National Medical Commission (NMC), highlighted a significant disparity between the actual number of internship seats approved by the NMC and those currently allotted by DMC in teaching and non-teaching hospitals."
"To rectify this imbalance, the DMC has requested the NMC to evaluate the matter and issue appropriate directives to ensure the optimal utilization of approved internship seats. Furthermore, the DMC has urged the Commission to assess and approved the following eleven (11) non-teaching hospitals as additional eligible centers for FMG internship training under the CRMI program," NMC added.
The commission considered the proposal submitted by DMC and approved the inclusion of eleven non-teaching hospitals. "The proposal submitted by the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) has been duly considered by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB). Following comprehensive evaluation, the Board has approved the inclusion of the aforementioned eleven (11) non-teaching hospitals, in addition to the previously permitted nine (9) non-teaching hospitals (detailed in the Annexure), for conducting the Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs). This extension of permission is valid for a further period of two (2) years, upto May 2028," the UG Board of the Commission added in the letter.
Now, the Commission has asked Delhi Medical Council to submit a status report specifying the parameters for each of these hospitals, bed capacity, FMG internship seats, and stipend disbursement details.
"Consequent to this approval, the Delhi Medical Council is requested to furnish a comprehensive status report to the UGMEB. This report must explicitly update the Board on the parameters for each of the permitted non-teaching hospitals, i.e., functional bed capacity, total intake capacity of seats allocated for the CRMI, and status of disbursement compliance of the stipend paid to the interns," the Deputy Secretary of NMC UG Board added in the letter.
