NMC Appoints KGMU as Nodal Centre for Medical Education
Lucknow: The National Medical Commission has appointed Lucknow-based King George's Medical University (KGMU) as the nodal centre for medical education under the Faculty Development Programme of the Commission.
In fact, already the four-day inaugural workshop for this initiative has started, adds IANS. This centre aims to teach innovative medical techniques to educators from various medical institutions and colleges.
Confirming this development, the Chairperson of the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of NMC, Dr. Aruna V Vanikar, said this step will enhance the medical education landscape in the country, ultimately leading to the growth of skilled and knowledgeable medical professionals.
“The objective of the program is to enhance the overall quality of medical education by equipping teachers with essential training. It sensitises educators to emerging concepts in teaching and assessment methods and focuses on developing comprehensive knowledge and clinical skills to enable teachers to effectively perform their roles,” she said.
Commenting on this, the Spokesperson of the University, Dr. Sudhir Singh, said the workshop intends to equip educators with new methodologies of medical education, including teaching approaches for children.

The Times of India adds that Dr. Singh further mentioned that “As many as 30 educators from across the country participated in the workshop, which covers various topics related to medical education, such as curriculum management, teaching methodologies, assessment schemes, research and project planning.”
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that earlier this year, NMC had informed about the process of re-allocation of medical colleges including PG Institutes to Nodal/Regional Centres for the purpose of various Faculty Development Programs and re-allocation of Regional Centres to Nodal Centres for Advance Course in Medical Education (ACME).
"This re-allotment of Medical Colleges, Standalone PG Institutes and Regional Centres will come into force from the date of issue of this order," NMC had mentioned in the circular.
The Director of NMC UG Medical Education Board further mentioned in the circular, "Since last allocation of the Medical Colleges, a number of new Medical Colleges have been opened. Further recently we have upgraded two (02) Regional Centres to the status of Nodal Centres and three (03) Medical Colleges have been accorded the status of Regional Centres for the purpose of FDPs."
"Under these changed scenario/circumstances regarding augmentation in the number of Medical Colleges, Nodal Centres as well as Regional Centres, it becomes necessary to do the re-allocation of all Medical Colleges for the various Faculty Development Programs (FDPs)," further stated the Commission.
