NMC directs Medical Colleges to amalgamate old, new batches in New MBBS CBME curriculum
New Delhi: After releasing the new Competency-Based Medical Education for MBBS Course Curriculum, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed the medical institutes across the country to merge the old and new batch of MBBS students from the current academic year so that the basic elements of the CBME learning could be imparted to the medicos.
Salient features of the curriculum which will also focus on Local Language adaptation include a transliteration of Maharshi Charak Shapath, Family Adoption Programme as well an academic calendar and guidelines on supplementary exams.
The new CBME for UG course curriculum was discussed in detail in the 6th meeting of the NMC which was held on March 24, 2022. After detailed discussion and deliberation, it has been unanimously decided in the said meeting of the Commission to implement the new CBME curriculum and that the old and new batch of MBBS students should be amalgamated in the new CBME Course Curriculum for MBBS students from the current academic session i.e. 2021-22 with the objective of covering all three domains of learning (Cognitive, affective & Psychomotor), subject to the informed written consent of the students.
The new course curriculum introduced in August 2019 enriches the medical student with a sound base and balanced approach to the overall aspect with the introduction of the foundation course which includes the Family Adoption Programme, Yoga, meditation, Local Language adaptation and skills. The curriculum committee of the erstwhile Medical Council of India (MCI) has aligned and integrated the basic knowledge of pre and Para Clinical Subject with the clinical Subjects. Earlier clinical exposure, AETCOM module, Problem based learning, Domain wise education and exposure, developing interest in basic research is likely to bring a positive impact and enhancement in job opportunities to these young graduates.
In this regard, the NMC has directed all the Registrars of the Universities and the Deans/Principals of the medical colleges to complete the required formalities with regard to amalgamation of old and new batch of MBBS students in the new CBME Course Curriculum on priority.
