NMC issues LoP to GMC Ongole for 5 PG medical seats
Vijaywada: Bringing good news to the postgraduate medical aspirants in Andhra Pradesh, the Government Medical College in Ongole, known as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has recently received the permission from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for five Post Graduate medical seats.
Issuing the Letter of Permission (LoP) to the institute under Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the Apex medical commission has given the permission for these PG medical seats for the academic year 2022-2023.
The PG medical seats for which the college has received NMC permission include one seat in respiratory medicine course, two seats in Biochemistry, and two medical seats in forensic medicine.

Medical Dialogues had last year reported that MoS Health Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar had informed Lok Sabha regarding the total number of PG medical seats in the country. The data presented by the Minister had revealed that Andhra Pradesh has a total number of 2371 post-graduation medical seats in all specialties. Among these, 1065 seats belong to the Government medical colleges and 1306 seats belong to private institutes.
Last year, in order to deal with the severe shortage of specialist doctors in Andhra Pradesh, the State Director of Medical Education had submitted a report to the State seeking an increase of PG medical seats in medical colleges in Guntur, Nellore, Ongole, Kakinada, and Srikakulam.
As per the latest media report by the The New Indian Express, NMC has given permission to the Government Medical College in Ongole for five new PG medical seats. The principal of the medical college Dr. PV Sudhakar Babu confirmed the news after the college received an email informing about the MARB decision on September 15.
