Nagpur: More Postgraduate medical aspirants in Maharashtra will now get the chance to pursue PG medical courses in Dermatology since the Department of Dermatology Venereology and Leprosy (VDL) department or the Skin Department of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) has received permission for 3 PG medical seats.
This comes after recently the National Medical Commission (NMC) inspected the institute. During the inspection last month the Commission had thought that the department had deficiency in Microbiology, cytopathology, CT Scan, MRI.
On Tuesday, NMC sent a letter to IGGMCH and referred to the deficiencies. However, in the same letter, the Commission had directed the medical institute for submitting the compliance letter.
Accordingly, the Dean of the Institute sent the compliance letter on an urgent basis and depending on the same, the Apex medical body granted its permission for to IGGMCH for admitting three PG students from the academic year 2022-2023.
The norms specify that for three PG seats in the Skin Department, one Professor, one Associate Professor, one Lecturer and one Senior Resident are necessary. Apart from fulfilling this condition, IGGMCH has an addition of three Junior Residents, adds the Hitavada.

Speaking about the NMC nod and the assistance of the Dean, Dr Mishra told the daily, "While moving the proposals and getting sanctioned certain things, Madam supported me a lot."
"Now, the working hands will be increased and we can provide specialised treatment to patients. We have laser treatment facility which can be rendered to the needy patients. Through PUVA therapy (Psoralen + ultraviolet light A) diseases like vitiligo, psoriasis can be treated. Right now 200-250 patients attend Outpatient Department (OPD) exclusively of Skin daily. With PG seats' addition the number of patients getting attended will also increase. Many patients come with a complaint of Pemphigus. They go through lot of sufferings. Now the department can provide them the proper treatment," added Dr Mishra.
