NMC relaxation: Now PG medical students can appear for exams without poster presentation or reading a paper at national, state conference
New Delhi: Offering relaxation to the Postgraduate medical students of Batch 2020-2021, the Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of National Medical Commission has exempted one out of two requirements -poster presentation and read a paper at a national/state conference, for appearing in the PG degree examination.
The exemption has been offered by the NMC PG Board as it considered the COVID pandemic situation that the medicos had to face during their years of study.
However, the Board has clarified in the public notice that "submission of research paper is mandatory."
Referring to the receipt of references from Medical Colleges and institutes in this regard, the NMC PG Board mentioned in the notice, "Post Graduate Medical Education Board is in receipt of a number of references from Medical Colleges/Institutes, owing to Covid pandemic, on the subject mentioned above thereby seeking relaxation and/or clarification on clause 13.9 of PGMER, 2000..."
As per Clause 13.9 of PGMER, 2000, "A postgraduate student of a postgraduate degree course in broad specialties/ super specialties would be required to present one poster presentation, to read one paper which should be published/accepted for publication/sent for publication during the period of his postgraduate studies so as to make him eligible to appear at the postgraduate degree examination."
In this regard, NMC offered relaxation the Batch 2020-2021 and mentioned in the notice, "In this regard, it is stated that as a special consideration, Postgraduate students (Batch 2020-21) may be exempted from one out of two requirements (poster presentation and read a paper at a national/state conference)."
"However, the submission of research paper is mandatory," President of PGMEB, Dr. Vijay Oza clarified in the notice.
Last year also, the NMC PG Board had provided relaxation to the PG medicos in this regard. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that taking the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation into consideration, NMC had offered to provide relief to the Postgraduate medical students by providing them with relaxation regarding poster presentation, research paper presentation required for appearing in PG medical examination.
As per the NMC advisory dated 23.12.2021, the PG medical students had been made eligible to appear for their PG medical degree examinations even in the absence of paper or poster presentations or submission of research paper.
