Now MBBS at IIT: IIT Kharagpur Introduces MBBS Course at BC Roy Institute of Medical Science and Technology
Kharagpur: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants, IIT-Kharagpur is going to start new MBBS programme in medicine at B C Roy Institute of Medical Science and Technology.
This development comes as the institute has now updated its curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP).
Addressing a press conference, the director of IIT Kharagpur said one of the major initiatives undertaken by IIT-Kharagpur, in light of NEP 2020, has been multidisciplinary research in science, technology, management, and law.
"IIT-Kharagpur is now adding a new dimension by starting MBBS programme at the BC Roy Institute of Medical Science and Technology," he told PTI on Monday.
"In the UG and PG curricula, the choice of electives has been broadened. Further, interdisciplinary dual-degree programmes have been introduced," he added.

The Times of India adds that Director V K Tewari further said, "NE's inclusion in academic curriculum will generate more employment based on entrepreneurship model of being an employer than an employee. With multiple entry-exit policy, any student can take a break from their respective courses to gain industry experience and return to continue his academic curriculum."
The UG programmes at IIT Kharagpur had eight weeks of summer internship and this can now be extended to eight months of research or industry internship, Tewari said. Internships have also been proposed for PG programmes, he said.
IIT-Kharagpur has set up an international student office, and is making efforts to increase the admission of international students, Tewari said.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that last year the B.C.Roy Multi-Speciality Medical Research Centre of IIT-KGP and All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health (AIIHPH) had joined hands to start an online certificate course on "Health Promotion and Medical Intervention" under the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL).
This course was designed to provide the learners with a comprehensive understanding of Health Promotion and Education Interventions. Health Promotion and Education Interventions are critical competencies for public health professionals.
The aim of this course was to make the participants able to define and understand the need for health promotion and education interventions and to enable them to plan, implement, and evaluate Health Promotion and Education Interventions.
Candidates who completed their post-graduate (medical) in Community Medicine, Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Promotion or pursued post-graduation in nursing or allied disciplines were declared to be eligible to undergo the course.
