Indian Nursing council withdraws recognition of 24 Kerala nursing colleges over non-compliance

Kerala: Noting failure to comply with regulations and skipping inspections for several years, the Indian Nursing Council (INC) has recently withdrawn the national recognition for 24 nursing institutions in Kerala.
Additionally, the council has deemed such institutions 'unsuitable' for conducting nursing programmes.
In November 2024, the state government and the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council were asked to provide their recommendations regarding the suitability of nursing institutions. However, the council received no comments or recommendations from the state government or KNMC regarding the suitability of the colleges.
In this regard, the INC also released a statement which states that “Candidates who have obtained a recognised qualification certificate from these institutions can register only in Kerala, and not in other states. The affected educational institutions include government, private, and mission-run colleges offering ANM, GNM, BSc Nursing, MSc Nursing, Post Basic BSc Nursing, and Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care (NPCC) courses in districts such as Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram, Kannur, Wayanad, Thrissur, Kollam, Kozhikode, and Idukki”.
