MP Nursing College Scam: Principal removed, Doctors Among 70 Charge-Sheeted

Madhya Pradesh- Amid the ongoing investigation into the Madhya Pradesh nursing college scam, the Health and Medical Education Department has taken strict action by removing the principal of a government nursing college and appointing a new official in her place. Over 12 doctors and nursing staff have been charge-sheeted, and departmental inquiries have been initiated against 70 individuals across the state, involved in college inspection teams. These developments come after allegations that several colleges were falsely approved despite lacking essential infrastructure.
According to the Patrika Media news report, Radhika Nair, Principal of the Government Nursing College of Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, has been removed from her post. In her place, Leela Nalvanshi has been given the responsibility of Principal.
Apart from this, charge sheets have been issued to more than 12 nursing staff and doctors of the GMC, as well as 70 people from all over Madhya Pradesh. Also, orders have been given for a departmental inquiry of the doctors and nursing staff involved in the teams inspecting nursing colleges, according to Patrika.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported many colleges were reported as suitable even though they did not meet the criteria. Later, an investigation committee constituted on the orders of the High Court found these colleges were unsuitable after an investigation.
Earlier, notices were served to the former principal of GMC’s nursing college, Rosy Shahul, DrJitendra Mahaver, Dr Harisingh Makwana, Dr Sandeep Kumar, Dr Virendra Kumar, Rajani Nair, PriadarshaniDeharia. But so far, no action has been taken against them. The then health commissioner had served 110 officials, and now, charge sheets have been given to only 70 officials. In February 2024, the CBI had submitted a list of 308 nursing colleges, divided into three categories: suitable, deficient, and unsuitable, to the high court.
Of these, 66 colleges werecategorised as unsuitable, 132 as suitable, 37 as suitable with minor deficiency, and 73 as deficient, adds Free Press Journal
Meanwhile, NSUI state vice-president Ravi Parmar has accused the government of protecting several accused officers and employees. In this regard, the then medical education commissioner had issued notices to about 110 nursing staff and doctors a year ago, but till now, charge sheets have been issued against only 70. It has been warned that if fair action is not taken in the case and all the culprits are not punished, then NSUI will launch a state-wide agitation.
