One Lakh MBBS Seats in India by Next Year: Union Health Minister
New Delhi: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in India, the Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has recently informed that there will be one lakh MBBS seats in India by the next year.
During his recent visit to Varanasi, the Health Minister has informed that continuous efforts are being made to increase the number of doctors in India and provide better health facilities to the people of this country.
He further informed that Health and Wellness Centres are being set up for a population of five to six thousand. Apart from this, the tele-consultancy facilities are also getting better and every day around four lakh people avail the tele-consultancy facilities.
Recently the MoS Health Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar has informed the Parliament that there are a total number of 96,077 MBBS seats and 49,790 PG medical seats available in India.
As per the latest media report by Jagran, recently while visiting Varanasi, the Union Health Minister has informed that the total number of MBBS seats will increase to one lakh by next year.
Referring to the Health and Wellness Centres, he clarified that CHOs of these centres contact the specialist and arrange treatment for the patient. Because of this, the patients do no need to avail treatment from the district headquarters or anywhere else and they get to save the expenses for travelling purpose, the patients do not have to face loss of work and do not need anyone else to accompany them.
Mentioning that already 1.32 lakh wellness centres are working in India, the Health Minister further informed that the Prime Minister Modi has set the aim of setting up 1.5 lakh wellness centres by December 2022. He informed that with the help of these centres and tele-consultancies around Rs 7500 crore has been saved.
Explaining the advantages of tele-consultation (e-Sanjeevani) services, Dr. Mandaviya cited research and further informed that common men get huge benefits from this service as a person gets to save Rs 900 at a time.
In this regard, he also awarded he best performing states in the Inter-State Conference of Community Health Officers. States including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and West Bengal bagged the first, second, third prizes respectively for providing excellent medical services via tele-consultation.
Apart from these, Union Territories of Chandigarh and Jammu and Kashmir as well as Manipur and Assam from North East Hill States were also awarded. Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir along with the North East hill states of Assam and Mizoram bagged the awards for generating the maximum number of Ayushman Bharat Health Account Generation (Abha) IDs. States including Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh got awards for doing excellent work on the Health and Wellness Center built under Ayushman Bharat.
