PG Orthopaedics Student from Silchar Medical College Suspended for six months for being absent from emergency duties
Silchar: Finding a Postgraduate Orthopaedics student guilty of indiscipline, the Academic Council of Silchar Medical College and Hospital has suspended him for a period of six months.
The concerned student of 2021-2022 batch was allegedly absent from the emergency duty that had been allotted to him. Therefore, the college authorities have now barred him from attending classes and all the academic privileges.
Apart from this, the PG medical student has also been suspended or expelled from the medical college hostel, adds Barak Bulletin. These actions have been imposed on the guilty PG student of Department of Orthopaedics and they will come into effect on immediate basis.
Enrolled in the Department of Orthopaedics, the PG medical student had allegedly remained absent from emergency duty. Apart from this, he had allegedly given false statements to both the Principal and the Professor & Head of the Department of Orthopaedics. Further, he was found to be engaged with middlemen for personal dealings with the College authorities.

Taking cognisance of all these willful acts of indiscipline, the Academic Council recommended taking disciplinary actions against him. Accordingly, on March 17, 2023, a meeting was held in the chamber of the Principal cum Chief Superintendent of Silchar Medical College and Hospital. In the meeting, it was decided to suspend the student from classes and the medical college hostel for a period of six months, adds a recent news report by Barak Bulletin.
The daily adds that the decision of the college authorities has sent a strong message to the students of the medical college to clarify that any act of indiscipline will not be tolerated, especially when it might jeopardize the patient care.
Silchar Medical College had recently been mentioned in a sensational Facebook Post where a junior PG medical student had alleged that he was being ragged by the seniors. Claiming to be "mentally dead", the student had expressed that he was thinking about committing suicide.
Giving details about how the seniors harass the junior students, the post had mentioned, "They shout at us for no reason. They express their frustration on us. Treat us like dogs, mainly in surgical branches like Ortho, Surgery, Optha... They don't allow us to eat in time. Apart from this, we have whole night duty also," the post had mentioned.
Barak Bulletin adds that after this sensational post started circulating on social media, vigilance was increased in the Orthopaedics department, which had also been named in the post. Following this, some irregularities had been found in some of the departments and accordingly the college authorities have taken a strong action to send a message.
