Supreme Court junks plea challenging NEET SS 2025 exam dates

Supreme Court of India
New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India recently dismissed a plea that challenged the schedule of the National Eligibility-Entrance Test Superspeciality, NEET SS 2025 examination.
While considering the plea that highlighted a likely conflict between the NEET SS exam dates, which are scheduled to be conducted on December 27 and December 28, 2025, and the ongoing final-year university examinations for MD/MS DNB courses at various medical institutions across India, the Apex Court bench led by Chief Justice B.R.Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih observed that it was a matter of policy.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that previously, the NEET SS 2025 exam was scheduled for December 27th and 28th, 2025, after being postponed from the earlier tentative dates of November 7th and 8th.

However, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) revised the National Eligibility and Entrance Test-Super Speciality (NEET-SS) exam dates for the academic year 2025. In the new notice dated 22.10.2025, NBEMS announced that the NEET-SS 2025 exam would not be held on December 26 and 27, 2025.
The plea before the Apex Court challenged the schedule of the NEET SS 2025 exam on December 27 and 28, 2025. The counsel for the NEET SS aspirants argued that the overlapping schedule, compounded by three notifications issued by NBE, one during a judicial vacation, severely disadvantaged students, Shiksha has reported.
"We are for NEET super speciality students...Course is still on. Three notifications were brought in ... We have challenged them .. one notification was during vacation," the counsel for the aspirants submitted.
However, the bench led by CJI observed, "This is a matter of policy. We cannot intervene. Dismissed," Bar and Bench has reported.
The NEET-SS examination is a national-level qualifying and ranking test that determines admission to various super-speciality courses in medical institutions across the country. It is conducted annually by NBEMS as per the guidelines approved by NMC and the central government.
