Tamil Nadu seeks Health Minister's support on NEET Exemption, approval on AIIMS Hospital, medical colleges
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian placed several requests to Union Health Minister Dr Mansuk Mandaviya concerning the state, including his support for an exemption from NEET for admission to UG medical courses.
During his visit to the Omandurar Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital in the city where he inspected various facilities, Subramanian met Dr Mansukh Mandaviya and requested him to support the NEET exemption Bill passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and sent to the Union Government with the approval of the Governor to get the Presidential assent.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu Assembly Bill seeking an exemption to the state from the ambit of the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test, NEET had been sent to the Centre for presidential assent by Governor R N Ravi.
Before this, the CM had written to the Governor of the State, Thiru. R.N. Ravi urging him to forward the bill scrapping the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) to the Government of India.

Now, according to the UNI report, in a letter to the Union Health Minister, Subramanian said the role of state government in PG medical admissions under State quota is limited and the draft rules for the same should be revised and sub-sections 10.1 of the draft should be dropped.
He said efforts aimed at changing the current admission system for state-allocated seats should be stopped immediately.
He also requested to expedite the work of AIIMS Hospital in Madurai.
Currently, the State Government has given admission to the seats at AIIMS Medical College to attend classes at the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College from February 2022.
He also requested the Union Health Minister to approve the new AIIMS hospital in Coimbatore, besides sanction for setting up new medical colleges in six districts of the State.
For the students who were studying in Ukraine, Subramanian said the government should find a way for them to continue their studies in medical colleges in India.
He also urged Dr Mandaviya to increase the number of medical students studying abroad from 7.50 per cent to 20 percent in the application to practice and train in the State.
Subramanian said a request has been made to upgrade 50 Health Sub Centres to Primary Health Centers and 25 Primary Health Centers to 30 bedded Upgraded Primary Health Centers.
