Andhra Pradesh on COVID alert after fresh cases, 2 deaths in Kadapa

Kadapa: Health authorities in Andhra Pradesh have stepped up COVID-19 surveillance and preparedness measures after fresh infections and two COVID-related deaths were reported in Kadapa district. Hospitals across the state have been directed to strengthen infection-control measures while the public has been urged to remain cautious without panicking.
According to officials, eight active COVID-19 cases have been reported in Kadapa district. Two patients who tested positive for the virus recently died while undergoing treatment, while another patient, a medical student, is currently recovering in home isolation.
Health teams have also collected samples from people in affected areas, with several test results still awaited. Samples have been sent for genome sequencing to identify the circulating variant.
The alert comes after eight active COVID-19 cases were detected following the deaths of two patients, one each from Kadapa and Annamayya districts. Health officials siad all eight patients are asymptomatic, clinically stable and recovering under home isolation, reports Medical Buyer.
In response to the recent cases, district authorities have intensified surveillance, sanitation drives and contact tracing. Special rapid response teams have been deployed, and family members of infected individuals are being tested and monitored. The state government has also instructed district administrations to strengthen testing, reporting, and isolation measures to prevent further spread of the infection.
Speaking to The Daily, a senior doctor said, “We have been instructed to keep RT-PCR kits, PPE kits, masks, sanitisers and essential Covid medicines ready at all times.''
At the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Kadapa, hospital authorities have initiated additional precautionary measures after five COVID-19 cases were detected on July 9. Separate wards have been designated for COVID-19 patients, while testing has been made mandatory for patients presenting with COVID-like symptoms. Medical and paramedical staff have also been advised to remain vigilant.
According to Deccan Chronicle, doctors at RIMS said the state health department has directed hospitals to remain prepared by ensuring adequate stocks of RT-PCR kits, PPE kits, masks, sanitisers, essential medicines, oxygen-supported beds, ventilators and ambulance services. Officials maintained that the situation is under control but advised people to wear masks in crowded places, maintain hygiene and seek medical attention if they develop symptoms.
