2010 MBBS Seat Fraud: Bhopal doctor sentenced to 3 years rigorous imprisonment

Bhopal: A Bhopal-based doctor has been sentenced to three years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for securing admission to an MBBS course by submitting a forged domicile certificate in 2010.

Despite clearing the Pre-Medical Test (PMT) conducted by the Professional Examination Board, Bhopal, 16 years ago, the doctor used a fake domicile certificate to illegally obtain a medical seat under the Madhya Pradesh state quota and gained undue benefits.

The matter came to light in 2020 and has been pending judgment for 6 years until the District and Sessions Court in Bhopal passed the verdict on January 27, 2026.

Considering the matter, the court convicted the accused after finding him guilty under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC. Along with the jail term, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 500, as reported by Free Press Journal. All sentences will run concurrently.

During the court proceeding, Special Public Prosecutor Aqeel Khan informed the court that Dr ** had used a fake domicile certificate to illegally obtain a medical seat under the Madhya Pradesh state quota. The forged document was used during the admission process after he cleared the Pre-Medical Test (PMT) conducted by the Professional Examination Board, Bhopal, in 2010.

Following this, the Special Task Force police station of Bhopal took note of the incident following a complaint. Based on the complaint, an enquiry was conducted in which they found that the accused had gained an undue benefit by falsely claiming domicile status under the state quota.

After confirmation, the police registered a case in 2020 under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of IPC, and the matter was brought before the court this year.

Medical Dialogues last year reported that two individuals, including an MBBS doctor posted at Begusarai jail, were arrested for allegedly running a racket in which they arranged proxy candidates who appeared for the national-level medical entrance exam on behalf of the original candidates by using fake admit cards.

The duo reportedly confessed to charging between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh per candidate to replace aspirants who weren't confident of clearing the MBBS entrance exam. These proxies would appear for the exam using fake admit cards.
