3rd year PG trainee arrested, granted bail for allegedly running over rickshaw puller
Kolkata: A third-year postgraduate trainee at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, arrested for allegedly running over a 47-year-old rickshaw puller on B T Road, was granted bail on Sunday. The man was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The incident took place on Saturday, around 4 PM when a rickshaw puller was travelling along B T Road. A car coming from Shyambazar collided with the rickshaw from behind near the Sinthi area, falling under the jurisdiction of Cossipore Police Station. It was reported that after the crash, the car driver attempted to flee the scene.

While trying to escape, the car ran over the rickshaw puller and collided with another vehicle before the driver abandoned the car and fled on foot.
His lawyer told the Sealdah court that the doctor had dozed off after finishing a 48-hour shift at the government hospital, reports the Telegraph.
During the subsequent investigation, police discovered that the car was registered to a medical professional employed at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Authorities arrested him later that evening, around 9 PM, from his residence.
The police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the doctor. This charge indicates that the incident was caused by a reckless act, leading to the death of the rickshaw puller.
According to the Millennium Post, the doctor had claimed that he became drowsy and thus failed to control his car which subsequently led to the unfortunate accident.
On Sunday, the doctor was produced before the Sealdah Court, where he was granted bail.
