4 doctors arrested for alleged links to terror activities

New Delhi: In a major crackdown, four doctors and several of their associates have been arrested across multiple states for their alleged involvement in terror-related activities.

The arrests, made in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, and Gujarat, have exposed what investigators describe as a “white-collar terror network” operating from within professional and academic circles.

According to the news reports, authorities have seized over 2,500 kilograms of bomb-making materials, chemical compounds, firearms, and poison-formulating substances in two separate operations. Although both incidents occurred within a day of each other, investigators have not yet confirmed whether they are interconnected.

Investigations revealed that these radicalised doctors were in contact with foreign handlers operating from Pakistan and other countries and even banned outfits like ISIS, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGUH), reports India Today.

They were allegedly preparing both chemical and firearms-based attacks in multiple Indian cities.

The first arrest occurred last week when a senior resident doctor from Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle in his personal locker. The doctor, who had reportedly gone missing after JeM-supporting posters appeared in Srinagar on October 27, was later traced to Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and arrested on November 6.

Police confirmed his links to Jaish-e-Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. A case was filed under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

In a parallel development, another doctor, a Kashmiri national and faculty member at Al Falah University in Haryana, was arrested on November 9 in a joint operation by Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana Police. Authorities recovered 360 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate, a powerful explosive component packed in 12 suitcases, from a Faridabad property.

Speaking to India Today, Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta said that the doctor had links to banned terror groups and had previously posted JeM-supporting posters in Srinagar. His arrest was facilitated by leads provided by another accused.

Earlier, on November 7, a female doctor from the same university was also detained. A Carom Cok assault rifle was recovered from her vehicle. Her identity has not yet been disclosed, and investigations into her role are ongoing.

Meanwhile, in Gujarat, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested another doctor who was allegedly preparing ricin, a deadly biological toxin derived from castor seeds. The suspect had reportedly conducted reconnaissance of crowded public areas in Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow as potential attack targets.

During the arrest, officials recovered two Glock pistols, a Beretta, live cartridges, and four litres of castor oil used in toxin extraction. Investigators believe the suspect maintained contact with a handler linked to ISIS–Khorasan Province.

He faces charges under the UAPA, Arms Act, and Indian Penal Code. Authorities are still probing whether his activities were linked to the arrests in Haryana and J&K.
