41 quacks exposed in Khammam, Telangana Medical Council files complaints

Hyderabad: In its ongoing efforts to weed out unregistered medical practitioners in the state, the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) has identified 41 fake doctors in Khammam during an inspection and filed complaints against them accordingly.

The action was taken after the council found these quacks practising illegally without the necessary medical qualifications, and prescribing medications to those who sought their services. These quacks claiming to be Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) misled the people by risking their health.

Following the inspection, the council filed a complaint against the 41 quacks and cases have been registered by the police under sections of the National Medical Council Act and Telangana Medical Practitioners Registration Act, 1968.

In this regard, TGMC vice chairman Dr Gundagani Srinivas told TOI, "According to the NMC Act, no one should prescribe allopathic medicines without registration with the Council. "These individuals are treating beyond their qualifications, catering to the needs of innocent people, and playing havoc with public health."

He further added, "The law imposes a one-year imprisonment and a fine of up to 5 lakh for violations. RMPs/PMPs are not real doctors and have no qualifications to practice allopathy. Knowingly or unknowingly, the antibiotic and steroid injections given unscientifically can cause more health problems in the long run. People should not be fooled by RMPs/PMPs who are fake doctors."

Medical Dialogues had recently reported that while dedicated doctors work tirelessly to educate the public on safe healthy practices, a man with only first-aid training for emergencies was found pretending to be a licensed doctor on a popular social media platform Instagram. The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) on its path to eradicating quacks called out the man for spreading misinformation to the netizens.

The council stated that the fake doctor under the username ‘all in one ram’ with 86,000 followers claimed to be a medical expert after receiving mere first-aid training for working with ambulances. He allegedly duped the people for three months on the social media platform.
