74-year-old Kurukshetra Doctor Completes 340th Marathon

Kurukshetra: Demonstrating extraordinary grit and endurance, 74-year-old Dr. Som Nath Sethi from Kurukshetra has completed his 340th marathon, challenging conventional notions about age and physical limits. By finishing the demanding 42.2-kilometre distance, he once again proved that resilience and strong willpower can outshine advancing years.
Remarkably, Dr. Sethi has endured more than 20 fractures over the course of his life. Despite these setbacks, he continues to participate in marathon events, setting an example for others to prioritise fitness and embrace a disciplined, health-conscious lifestyle. Sharing her life experiences, Dr Sethi stated that it is not the medal that gives her satisfaction only, rather she always concentrates on completing the race first. She proves that age is just a number when one remains mentally strong.
He underwent surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and was bedridden for three months. Doctors suggest that he should go for normal walks to accelerate his recovery. However, the determination and consistency of the doctor helped him make a quick return to running.
Sharing his ideology, Dr Sethi said that discipline is the key to success. Hence, one should follow healthy lifestyle patterns such as maintaining 7-9 hours of daily sleep, avoiding junk food and alcohol, and following a vegetarian diet. One has to maintain regular practice and consistent effort to acquire fitness. He also added that doctors should be the pioneers of preventive healthcare, and a disciplined daily routine can prevent many diseases.
