80-year-old doctor defrauded of Rs 9 lakh in cheque fraud

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar- In a recent case of financial fraud, Rs 9 lakh was allegedly withdrawn from the bank account of an 80-year-old retired doctor at the Yes Bank branch located on Court Road, using her missing cheque.
A case has been registered against two unidentified women at the Kranti Chowk Police Station in Maharashtra, and Sub-Inspector Sudhakar Patil is investigating the matter.
According to the police, the complainant is a retired practitioner who holds a bank account. A few days ago, one of her cheques reportedly went missing.
Two unidentified women found that check and subsequently, in April, they visited the bank with the check and inquired about the amount present in the account.
During the inquiry, they discovered that there were 9 lakh rupees in the account. Upon learning this, they left and returned to the bank the following day. The women deposited a cheque and demanded to withdraw the entire sum of ₹9 lakh.
Since the branch initially lacked sufficient cash, the employees reportedly suggested withdrawing ₹2 lakh.
However, the women insisted that the full amount was urgently required for hospital-related work, and they requested that the payment be made in a single lump sum.
Therefore, on April 8, the bank handed over ₹9 lakh to him.
A few days later, the victim learned that the money had been withdrawn. Immediately thereafter, she contacted the bank. The bank informed her that two women had cashed the check.
Subsequently, she lodged a complaint with the police. Based on her complaint, a case of fraud has been registered.
According to the Lokmat Times media news report, two accused individuals were captured on the bank's CCTV cameras withdrawing cash during the investigation. Although they were wearing burqas and their faces are not clearly visible, the police have initiated a technical analysis and are working to establish their identities.
