98 Assistant Professors appointed at Odisha Govt Medical Colleges
Bhubaneswar: To boost medical education in Odisha, the state government has appointed 91 Assistant Professors across 23 broad speciality disciplines and 7 Assistant Professors across 6 super speciality disciplines at different medical colleges in the state.
Medical education and training in Odisha, official sources said, has received a major boost with these new appointments, along with the functionalization of two new government medical colleges — Government Medical College & Hospital, Phulbani (Kandhamal district) and Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College & Hospital, Talcher (Angul district) — in 2025, news agency UNI reported.
With their addition, the total number of government medical colleges in Odisha has increased from 12 to 14. Earlier, in 2024, Maharaja Jajati Keshari Medical College & Hospital, Jajpur, had been made operational. Two postgraduate (PG) institutes in the state have also been strengthened with new appointments.

In addition, 38 posts of Professor and 27 posts of Associate Professor have been filled through departmental promotion in various state medical colleges.
At the Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC), Cuttack, medical education and clinical services have been further upgraded with the appointment of 10 super specialist Assistant Professors in Surgical Oncology, Gynaecological Oncology, Head & Neck Surgery, Medical Oncology, and Uro-Oncology.
One post of Professor and two posts of Associate Professor at the institute have also been filled through departmental promotion.
The government has stated that steps are being taken to appoint more specialists and superspecialists in government medical colleges and hospitals across the state.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that, bringing good news to the aspirants seeking MBBS, dental, and AYUSH admissions in Odisha-based medical colleges, the state government has announced that 9 new medical colleges are going to be established soon.
