Abdominal Hysterectomy Instead of Vaginal: FIR against 2 doctors

Lucknow: In a shocking case of alleged medical negligence, two doctors at Shalini Hospital in Sitapur have been booked for allegedly removing a woman’s uterus through an abdominal incision instead of the recommended vaginal route.
The doctors have also been accused of discarding the removed uterus in hospital waste rather than sending it for histopathological examination, a standard medical protocol used to detect underlying medical conditions.
Following the alleged botched surgery, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the hospital management and two doctors based on the court's order under relevant BNS sections.

As per the latest media report by the 420, the woman was brought to the hospital in October 2023. After examination, the doctors diagnosed complications in the uterus and recommended a hysterectomy.
Before surgery, the doctors informed her family that the uterus would be removed vaginally. With their consent, the doctors proceeded with the procedure on October 20.
However, during the operation, the doctors reportedly deviated from the original plan and performed the surgery through an abdominal incision. After regaining consciousness, the patient’s condition deteriorated, with swelling and urinary complications developing in the following days.
Her family claimed the hospital did not provide discharge papers detailing her treatment. They also alleged that the removed uterus was discarded instead of being sent for mandatory histopathological testing. The hospital reportedly charged Rs 60,000 for the procedure, alleged the family.
Subsequently, the woman was examined by another doctor, who confirmed ureteral damage and a third-grade cystocele. She later underwent corrective surgery at a different facility, where the alleged negligence came to light.
Following this, the Chief Medical Officer initiated an enquiry into the hospital and suspended all its operations pending investigation. A police investigation in this regard is also underway.
