AIIMS Bhopal doctors' alleged drunken altercation with police goes viral; probe launched

AIIMS Bhopal
Bhopal: A video showing a heated argument between a resident doctor and a police officer has gone viral on social media. The clip reportedly shows a doctor from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal, allegedly intoxicated, using foul language, and threatening an on-duty police officer after he and three others were caught holding an alcohol party inside a car parked outside the hospital’s emergency gate.
According to the police, two out of the four individuals involved are doctors from AIIMS Bhopal. After the alleged altercation, the police informed the hospital authorities, who have taken note of the incident and formed a committee to investigate whether the people seen in the video are actually doctors from AIIMS. The institution stated that further disciplinary action will be taken once their identities and departmental details are confirmed.

In the viral video, the man appears visibly intoxicated and unstable while arguing with the police officer. He is heard reportedly saying, “I have been here for six years. I know officers from ten police stations. Who are you?” before continuing to abuse the officer. Another video shows two men lying inside the car in an intoxicated state, with beer bottles and snacks scattered around.
As per a Free Press Journal news report, the incident took place at around 2 AM on Tuesday, late at night, when the group was drinking near the emergency gate and was approached by police officers. According to police, one of the men, who identified himself as a doctor, began hurling abuses and questioning the officer's identity when confronted.
Following the incident, the police prepared a report and forwarded it to the AIIMS authorities. Accordingly, the management constituted an inquiry committee to look into the matter. A senior AIIMS official told Bhaskar, "This is a serious matter related to the institute's reputation. The investigation is ongoing, and strict action will be taken soon."
Bagsewania police station in-charge Amit Soni told FPJ, "Two of the persons, who are doctors, have been identified and efforts are underway to identify the other two. We have informed the AIIMS management and are gathering complete details. Further action will be taken once their identities are verified."
