AIIMS Bhubaneswar junior resident found dead in rented room

Bhubaneswar: In an unfortunate incident, a female junior resident doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar was found dead at her rented accommodation in Dumduma under Khandagiri police station limits late Tuesday, police said.

According to preliminary investigations, the doctor was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside her room, leading police to suspect that she may have died by suicide.

The deceased was a native of Karnataka and was pursuing her residency at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

Police said she had been experiencing health-related issues over the past few days and was reportedly under mental stress. She was residing in the rented house with a friend.

“She did not report to duty on Tuesday. When her roommate returned in the evening and found the room locked, repeated calls to her phone went unanswered,” a police officer said. The police were alerted, and after breaking open the door, officers found her hanging, reports TOI.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Officials said the autopsy will be conducted in the presence of her family members, who are expected to arrive in Bhubaneswar soon.

Meanwhile, police officials said all angles are being examined, and the exact cause behind the death will be known after completion of the investigation and post-mortem report, reports Odisha TV.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in an unfortunate incident, a 27-year-old MBBS doctor who was preparing for the upcoming NEET PG medical examination reportedly committed suicide in her house located in Arjun Nagar, Pakka Bagh area. A suicide note recovered by the police revealed that she was suffering from chronic depression, anxiety, and despair, and felt unable to endure the mental pain any longer. In the note, she clearly stated that no one else should be held responsible for her decision and apologised to her parents and family.
