AIIMS Raipur doctor duped of Rs 46 lakh by woman met on Matrimonial website

Raipur: A 31-year-old doctor from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur, has reportedly fallen victim to a matrimonial scam after losing Rs 46 lakh to a woman he met on the matrimonial website.
According to the police, the woman allegedly persuaded the doctor to invest money in an online trading site with the promise of opening a hospital together and getting married in the future.
The accused woman, besides promising to be the wife of the doctor and business partner, also posed as a doctor. She introduced herself to the doctor two months ago as Dr Radhika Mukherjee.

As per the latest TOI news report, the incident took place after the doctor, Rahul Kumar Rohit, met with the woman on the matrimonial website and got into touch mostly over WhatsApp calls. Over time, they talked about marriage.
During their discussions, the woman introduced Dr Rohit to a forex trading site, Plus 500 Global CS, and urged him to invest, saying the funds would be used to open a hospital together in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Upon hearing this, the doctor was hesitant at first, but later was convinced to invest in the trading site, the doctor reportedly took a loan and deposited Rs 32 lakh. After some days, when the trading site showed a profit, the doctor tried to withdraw the amount. However, he was asked to pay an additional Rs 16 lakh as Goods and Services Tax (GST) to withdraw the funds.
Thinking it was necessary, the doctor paid the amount, bringing his total investment to Rs 46 lakh. Despite investing a huge amount, the doctor was unable to withdraw the sum, which ultimately led him to realize he had been scammed.
When he tried to contact the woman, her phone was switched off. Realising he had been cheated, he approached the police and filed a complaint on Tuesday.
Amanaka Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Das said a case has been registered and the investigation is underway. Police are currently examining the transaction details to trace the accused and recover the funds.
