AIIMS Raipur MD Forensic Medicine commits suicide over work pressure

Suicide
Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a doctor, pursuing a postgraduate (PG) course in MD Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT) at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his residence in Raipur.
A suicide note recovered by the police from his room revealed that he had been struggling with extreme work pressure. The medico cited immense work pressure at the hospital as the reason for taking the drastic step and apologised to his parents for taking his own life.
The incident came to light on Sunday when one of his colleagues began calling him after he failed to arrive at the hospital on time. After repeated calls went unanswered, they went to his flat and discovered him hanging from the ceiling.

According to a latest media report by Amarujala, the incident happened late Saturday night. The medico locked the room's door from inside and hanged himself from the ceiling fan. After police were informed, they reached the spot and sent his body for a postmortem.
The deceased’s family has been informed about the unfortunate incident. A case has been registered in this matter, and the police have launched an investigation.
Sharing the unfortunate news on the popular social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Dhruv Chauhan, National President of the IMA Junior Doctors Network, expressed his concern and said, "How long will it take the National Medical Commission to enquire into the cases of depression and Suicides amongst doctors? How does the concerned dept where such cases happen not face investigation to find out the root cause?"
As per Telangana Today news report, the Telangana Senior Resident Doctors Association (TSRDA) expressed their sorrow and outrage after hearing about the incident.
They said in a statement, "Words feel inadequate to express the sorrow we feel on learning about the passing of our beloved Dr ***. Continuous harassment from the department faculty and unbearable work pressure has led him to take the only step he thought would bring closure i.e. suicide.”
Following this, the association has demanded a swift, unbiased investigation into the incident and punishment for the responsible officials at AIIMS Raipur.
