Psychiatrist ends life by allegedly injecting poisonous substance

Akola Psychiatrist’s Death Sparks Concern
Akola: In a tragic incident, a renowned 48-year-old psychiatrist allegedly committed suicide by injecting himself with a poisonous substance at his residence in New Tapadia Nagar on Saturday.
The tragic incident has sent ripples of grief and disbelief across Akola’s medical and social circles, where the 48-year-old doctor was a respected figure known for his compassionate counselling of thousands suffering from psychological disorders.
The doctor is survived by his wife, their 14-year-old son, and a daughter who is currently studying in Pune. His wife, who reportedly went into severe psychological shock upon hearing the news, is undergoing treatment at City Hospital.
According to the news reports, earlier on the same day, the doctor had reported for his usual duties at Sanmitra Hospital. Hospital sources revealed that he handed over the keys to the medical store to staff members, casually informing them that he would return shortly from home. Tragically, that brief departure turned fatal.
The victim was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead, the official said, adding that the body was sent for post-mortem, reports PTI.
Authorities from the Civil Lines police station have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR). No suicide note was discovered at the scene, and a preliminary examination of his mobile phone provided no substantial clues. His body was later transported to his native village in the Amravati district for the last rites.

The incident has once again brought the spotlight on the immense psychological burden carried by medical professionals, particularly those in the mental health field. Speaking to TOI, Senior psychiatrist Dr Lad said, "When caregivers themselves succumb to psychological pressure, it forces us to introspect on the gaps in our support systems. Doctors and counsellors are human too—they face stress and deserve the same attention to mental well-being as their patients."
