Another Quack with Class 10 Qualification arrested in Silchar

Silchar: In an ongoing effort to weed out fraudulent medical practitioners, the Cachar police arrested another quack on Monday from the Ambicapatty area of Silchar, after authorities received a tip-off about his suspicious activities. This latest arrest brings the total number of arrests in the district to 13.

During the investigation, authorities uncovered several forged documents, among them counterfeit MBBS degrees, falsified clinic records, and bogus prescriptions. The evidence revealed that the quack, who possessed only a matriculation certificate, had been posing as a qualified doctor and illegally treating unsuspecting patients.

An investigation is underway to determine how Nath obtained the fake documents and whether a larger network is involved in the forgery. Police have also urged citizens to verify medical practitioners’ credentials before seeking treatment, reports the Sentinel.

Authorities have ramped up scrutiny across hospitals, clinics, and private practices, implementing strict verification protocols to ensure the legitimacy of medical credentials. SSP Mahatta reiterated that action against quacks will continue with full force in the coming days.

This arrest is part of a larger crackdown initiated by the Assam Police and State Health Department to curb quackery across the state. In Cachar alone, 13 fake doctors have now been arrested, with two impostors caught within just 24 hours during a focused drive in September.

Across Assam, authorities have apprehended at least 22 individuals posing as doctors.
