Bahraich: An orthopaedic surgeon at Maharaja Suheldev Medical College died after reportedly suffering a sudden cardiac arrest while inside the operation theatre, where he was preparing to perform a surgery on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Dr. Vinod Kumar, a resident of Sant Kabir Nagar, had been working as an orthopaedic surgeon at the medical college for nearly four years. According to hospital officials, he experienced discomfort in the morning and was examined by fellow doctors. Around 12 noon, the doctor suddenly felt uneasy and collapsed. Medical staff present at the spot immediately rushed to help him and shifted him to a bed, where doctors administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and attempted to revive him.
Despite repeated efforts by the medical team, the doctor could not be revived. Doctors declared him dead at around 4:40 pm.
Following the incident, hospital authorities informed his family about his death. Police reached the medical college, took custody of the body, and sent it for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Medical College Principal Dr. Sanjay Khatri said that he had complained of gastritis earlier in the morning and had informed the head of his department. He was given medication, following which he felt better and resumed his work.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Dr. Khatri said, “Dr. Vinod was sitting in his chamber, about to perform an operation. Around 12:00 pm, while on his way to the OT, he suddenly felt chest pain and fainted. As soon as we learned of his condition, we immediately brought him in, administered artificial respiration, and even performed CPR. Unfortunately, we were unable to save him, and he died prematurely.”
The sudden demise of Dr. Kumar has left the medical fraternity at Maharaja Suheldev Medical College in mourning. A post shared by a doctor on 'X' described his death as a “tragic loss”, stating that his untimely demise had left the medical college campus in shock and grief.
