Bhopal BAMS doctor killed, 6 injured as speeding school bus rams vehicles

Bhopal: In a tragic incident, a female BAMS intern from Jai Prakash Hospital lost her life in a fatal road accident. While returning home on her scooter, she was waiting at a traffic intersection at Bhanpur Crossing when a speeding school bus rammed into her from behind. She became trapped in the front section of the bus and was dragged for nearly 50 feet, resulting in her death on the spot.
The out-of-control school bus didn’t stop there; it went on to collide with at least half a dozen vehicles, including a car, at a traffic signal in the busy Bhanganga Square area of Bhopal on Monday. The accident left the young doctor dead and six others injured, two of whom are reported to be in critical condition.
The deceased doctor has been identified as Ayesha Khan. CCTV footage from the scene revealed that around 10–12 vehicles were waiting at the red light at Bhanpur Crossing. Among them, the doctor was seen waiting on her scooter at the front of the line.

Suddenly, a school bus came from behind at high speed and crashed into the vehicles. The doctor’s scooter was hit directly by the bus. She got stuck in the front part of the bus and was dragged for about 50 feet. Her scooter was later thrown out from under the bus, but sadly, she came under the front wheel and died on the spot, Free Press Journal reports.
The incident happened after the school bus, which is 15 years and 8 months old, was coming from Roshanpura Square towards Banganga Square and reportedly lost control due to brake failure.
According to eyewitnesses, more than a dozen vehicles were waiting at the traffic signal at Bhanganga Square in the Roshanpur area on Monday afternoon when a school bus came speeding down a slope and crashed into them from behind.
They claimed the bus driver shouted “move, move” to alert the people in vehicles, apparently suggesting brake failure, but it was too late for the people to act in time. After ramming vehicles, the bus moved forward a short distance and came to a halt at an upward road curve, they added.
A biker and a pillion rider, identified as Raees and Firoz, sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the state-run Hamidia Hospital. They were subsequently shifted to a private hospital for advanced treatment.
Fortunately, the bus was not carrying students at the time of the accident, otherwise, the tragedy could have been bigger.
Following the incident, the driver fled the spot, TT Nagar area police inspector Sudhir Arjariya told PTI.
“A hunt is launched to arrest the driver of the empty school bus,” Arjariya said, adding that the cause of the accident will be identified after nabbing the driver and conducting a mechanical examination of the vehicle.
Police said the injured persons were rushed to Hamidia Hospital.
