BPSC cancels recruitment for 1,711 assistant professor posts in Bihar Medical Colleges

Patna: The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has cancelled its recruitment advertisements for 1,711 Assistant Professor posts across various specialities in government medical colleges and hospitals, with a fresh recruitment process expected to follow.
The decision covers advertisements numbered 04/2025 to 28/2025, issued in April 2025 for regular appointments across various medical departments under the state Health Department. According to the commission's latest notice, the advertisements were withdrawn after the department withdrew its petitions. The department has indicated that revised recruitment notifications are being prepared, although no date has been announced for their release.
The vacancies covered several clinical and non-clinical specialities, including Anaesthesia, General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pathology, Radiology and Microbiology. The recruitment drive was intended to strengthen the teaching and medical workforce in state-run healthcare institutions.
Applications for the posts initially closed on May 7, 2025. The deadline was later extended for certain specialities until June 30, reportedly because of a low response from applicants. The selection process had subsequently reached document verification in July 2025, according to media reports.
The latest announcement, however, does not specify whether applications submitted under the previous advertisements will be considered under the revised recruitment exercise. It also does not clarify whether candidates will have to apply afresh or whether any documents submitted earlier will remain valid, TOI reported.
It is also unclear whether the revised recruitment exercise will retain the same 1,711 vacancies, speciality-wise distribution or eligibility conditions.
Candidates should monitor the official BPSC website, bpsc.bihar.gov.in, for the revised advertisements. The new notifications are expected to specify the available posts, qualifications, age limits, applicable relaxations, application dates and selection procedure.
Until fresh notices are issued, applicants should refer to the commission's official announcements for confirmation of the revised recruitment terms.
