Doctor, 2 others arrested for illegal sex determination in Haryana
Gurgaon: In a joint investigation against inter-state illegal abortion and sex determination of fetuses, the Haryana Health Department has arrested three people, including a doctor in connection with the case.
A significant crackdown occurred following a raid conducted by health officials at a house in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Based on substantial evidence, the doctor and two others were taken into custody on Saturday.
While investigating the case, the health officials discovered the doctor’s connection with an inter-state abortion racket. Although three have been caught so far, an investigation is on to bust others in this regard.

The health officials investigated the case based on a tip-off regarding the racket, which is no longer a district case but has spread to other states.
A preplanned trap to catch the accused was executed on February 18, where a pregnant woman was sent to the accused as a decoy. The accused allegedly told her to pay Rs 50,000 and visit Saharanpur in UP via Kaithal, Haryana, for the sex determination of the foetus and subsequent abortion.
Following the woman to Saharanpur, UP, the district officials arrested the three accused after a raid was conducted jointly with the Kaithal officials at the proposed location. The accused have been brought from UP to Kaithal.
A portable ultrasound machine has been recovered from the house, which was used to conduct sex determination tests, TOI reports.
An FIR was filed against the trio under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994, and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971.
“It was an inter-state sex determination racket. We will be conducting more raids to curb such practices. We have already conducted several raids in Gurgaon, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh as the issue is not only related to the district,” said Virender Yadav, the chief medical officer of Gurgaon.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about an illegal abortion racket that had been busted in Gurugram. The Faridabad police raided the Samrat Hospital in Ballabhgarh based on a tip-off and arrested a doctor along with two others in connection with the case.
