Doctor asks for space during patient examination, assaulted instead

Doctor Assault
New Delhi: In a shocking case of violence against medical professionals, the on-duty Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and other doctors, including a female doctor at Delhi's Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Hospital, were allegedly verbally abused, assaulted, and threatened by a drunk male and a female attendant of a patient.
It has been alleged that while the doctors were attending to a patient brought in with emergency complications in the hospital's OPD, the two attendants not only disrupted their work but also assaulted the doctors in an intoxicated state.
The incident occurred around 3:30 am on October 6, 2025, when the patient was brought to the hospital by his relatives. As the doctors were preparing the patient for an ECG test, one of the male attendants, reportedly drunk, began pulling the patient by his leg.

When the staff intervened, the man allegedly began abusing both the staff and the doctor. The patient’s relatives then sent him outside. Soon after, a female attendant accompanying the patient started shouting and abusing the staff, the CMO, and the on-duty doctors, including a female doctor.
The hospital staff immediately informed the police. However, by the time the police arrived, the other attendants had already sent the accused female attendant home.
One of the doctors from the hospital who was assaulted mentioned in the patient’s OPD chart that the attendants misbehaved, abused, and raised a hand at a doctor.
Sharing the incident on 'X' (Formerly Twitter), a doctor alleged that the Police Control Room (PCR) refused to take immediate action as no female constable was available.
Questioning the safety of female doctors, he described the incident as “shocking” and “shameful.” He wrote, “Drunk attendants verbally assaulted and threatened female doctors and the CMO on duty at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hospital, Patel Nagar. PCR refused action, citing ‘no female constable available.’ Is this women’s safety in Delhi?"
