Dr Ranjan Ramakrishna K elected as President of IMA Mangaluru
Mangaluru: The Mangaluru branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has recently elected Dr Ranjan Ramakrishna K, Associate Professor of the Department of Anaesthesiology at Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru as their new President for the session 2023-24.
Speaking to Medical Dialogues, Dr Ranjan said "It is a great feeling to take on the responsibility of our IMA Mangaluru branch. As healthcare professionals, we need to unite and support each other. Although our organization is already strong, we should aim to make it even stronger and take the initiative in further improving it,"
"In order to achieve greater success in the future, It is crucial that we construct the association more effectively," he added.
Dr Ranjan was born in 1964 in Kavalkatte, Bantwal. He did his early education at Milagres High School, Mangaluru and graduated from St Aloysius College, Mangaluru. He did his MBBS at KMC Mangaluru in 1988, and MD in Anaesthesiology at KMC Mangaluru in 1995.
Presently, he is a Professor in Anaesthesiology at KMC Mangaluru, before which he was Dean at Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in 2012-13. He was also a Professor and HOD at SIMS 2010-15.
Dr Ranjan has been appointed for a year along with three other newly appointed association members. The new IMA office bearers include Dr Mahabalesh Shetty, Forensic expert and HoD of Forensic Medicine, K.S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), Mangaluru as the Vice President, Dr Avin B R Alva, Department of Community Medicine, KSHEMA, Deralakatte, Mangaluru as the Secretary and Dr Prashantha B, Department of Hematologist, KMC, Mangaluru as the Treasurer.

An Installation ceremony was held to welcome the newly elected members of the association who will serve from 2023-24. The chief guest for the evening was Anupam Agarwal IPS, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City. Dr Mohammed Ismail Hejamadi MD, Chairman of the Kanachur Health Sciences Advisory Council, will be the Installation Officer.
Before the installation ceremony, a special gathering was also held to pay tribute to the late Dr G G Laxman Prabhu, renowned urologist, professor and head of the Urology Department at Kasturba Medical College Hospital (KMC) who breathed his last recently.
Medical Dialogues team had reported the sad demise of Dr G G Laxman Prabhu who suffered cardiac arrest and unfortunately passed away at the age of 60 on November 17.
