Recently, Dr Gupta discussed the central government's preliminary approval to construct a 300-bed trauma centre at the institute. He said that a blueprint for the trauma centre is being prepared and would be submitted to the Union government for approval. If constructed sooner, he said that it will provide 24-hour definitive care support to the patients, as per the HT report.
Dr Gupta emphasised that AIIMS Bathinda would become a model for medical institutions across India, known not just for clinical excellence but also for leadership in public health, innovation, and community engagement.
Before his appointment at AIIMS-Bathinda, Dr Gupta had served in various leadership roles across premier medical institutions in India. With years of knowledge in medical education and research, he is expected to guide the institute to its full potential.
Speaking to The Tribune about his priorities after taking charge at AIIMS Bathinda, Dr Gupta said that strengthening research initiatives, enhancing super-speciality care, and expanding community outreach programs to better serve Punjab and neighbouring states will be among his key focus areas.
On his new role, Dr Gupta said, "It is a great honour to take charge as the Executive Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda — a growing centre of excellence in medical education, patient care, and research in the region. AIIMS Bathinda represents the vision of accessible, high-quality, and affordable healthcare for all. As we continue to expand our clinical services, academic programs, and research initiatives, I am committed to ensuring that the institute grows in both capability and compassion. Our goal is to create a patient-centric environment that blends advanced medical technologies with human touch, while nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals."
He further said, "My focus will remain on strengthening super-specialty services, enhancing research collaborations, upgrading infrastructure, and fostering a culture of ethics, empathy, and excellence. Together with our dedicated faculty, staff, and students, I envision AIIMS Bathinda becoming a model for medical institutions across India — known not just for clinical excellence, but also for leadership in public health, innovation, and community engagement. I invite all stakeholders — patients, professionals, partners, and the people of Punjab — to join us on this journey of growth, service, and healing."
