Elderly doctor injured in South Delhi chain snatching, 2 arrested

New Delhi: An elderly doctor fell victim to a violent chain-snatching incident in South Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave last week, prompting a swift and extensive investigation that led to the arrest of two accused—one of them captured after a 700-kilometre interstate chase.
According to the news reports, the accused are a 32-year-old resident of Pul Prahladpur and a 26-year-old from Tilak Nagar, both with extensive criminal backgrounds. The former, released from jail on February 27, has been involved in over 40 criminal cases. The latter, who was released on April 29, has faced more than 14 cases, including charges of dacoity, robbery, snatching, violations of the Arms Act, and even murder.
The complainant said that two men on a bike snatched her gold chain before fleeing, said DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel, reports TNIE.
Medical Dialogues recently reported that in a recent case of robbery, a city-based woman doctor sustained a hip fracture while fighting off bike-borne snatchers who robbed her of two gold chains in southwest Delhi's Safdarjung Enclave area, an official said.
An extensive investigation followed, during which police teams reviewed footage from over 500 CCTV cameras spread across eight districts of Delhi and parts of Noida.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Amit Goel, deputy commissioner of police (southwest), said CCTV footage helped trace the suspects’ movements. “The accused travelled from Safdarjung Enclave to Mukherjee Nagar, where they committed another snatching. They then moved through Burari, ISBT, Laxmi Nagar, and reached NH-24 via the Meerut Expressway, eventually entering Noida through the Mahamaya Flyover and Kalindi Kunj border,” he said. “It was a difficult trail to follow as they kept changing their locations. We analysed footage from over 500 CCTV cameras.”

The second suspect had fled the city and was later tracked down in Ludhiana, Punjab, after an intensive chase covering more than 700 kilometers.
